Spring ISD Education Foundation Raises $70,000 During Annual ‘Tee Up For Education’ Charity Golf Tournament

HOUSTON – Oct. 23, 2020 – In what has now become almost a tradition, the morning of the Spring ISD Education Foundation’s annual ‘Tee Up for Education’ charity golf tournament started off with rain at the Northgate Country Club course, but cleared up right before tee-off time at noon.

Neither the rain showers nor a global pandemic prevented 90 community leaders, business partners and Spring ISD staff from coming together to raise funds for student scholarships, teacher grants and district programs. The tournament is typically the foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year.

“COVID-19 may have come through, but our sponsors stepped up and said it’s not going to hold us back,” said Education Foundation President Ken Grays. “I am so proud of our volunteers, sponsors and our partners, and how they’ve been there for us. I feel very positive about how the foundation will be able to do this year.”

This year, the Education Foundation emphasised the need to support Spring ISD students and teachers as the district works to provide robust education for its students, whether at home or in-person. In addition to the charity golf tournament, the foundation also raises money throughout the year to support the district’s literacy initiatives and teacher grant programs.

This year’s tournament raised an estimated $70,000, exceeding the goal of $61,000, according to Spring ISD Foundation Executive Director Sandra Harper Scott. For those who turned out in support of the event, the decision to play golf for charity was an easy one.

“Any time away from the office to be able to support our kids is always a great day,” said Spring ISD Police Chief Kenneth Culbreath, who teed up for his second tournament.

Golfers participated in several charity initiatives throughout the course, including a Hole-in-One with a $10,000 cash prize, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin contests. A golf clinic was also held earlier in the morning before tee time, courtesy of PGA professional Mancil Davis.

“I look forward to this charity event every year because it shows the dedication and commitment of our community for our students, teachers and staff,” said Spring ISD superintendent Rodney E. Watson. “We cannot thank our business partners, vendors and sponsors enough for making this such a successful event year after year.”

In addition to the tournament itself, an online auction of sports memorabilia took place to raise funds. Non-golfers were also invited to join the golfers for an evening dinner with a raffle, silent auction and awards presentation.

This year’s tournament was presented by Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins and Mott‚ LLP.

Additional sponsors for Monday’s Spring ISD Education Foundation Golf Tournament included: Gallery Furniture, H-E-B, HCA, Frost Insurance Agency, Satterfield & Pontikes, Edgeunity, Durotech, IDG, Stantec, Bracewell, Tarkett, TCG Advisors, Tellepsen, Auto Arch, Huckabee, Kelsey Seybold Clinic, GPD Group, Commercial Flooring, Shell Federal Credit Union, Alpha Testing, Texas Pride Disposal, Chick-Fil-A, Texas Roadhouse, Eprint2Day, and iSphere.
